You can't argue with perfection, but the Harvard women's hockey team put up a strong case yesterday in Ithaca, N.Y.
Rebecca Schmalz' goal six minutes into the third period helped Cornell to maintain its perfect Ivy League record with a 3-2 win over the Crimson. The loss dropped Harvard (11-5 overall, 3-4 Ivy) four-and-a-half games out of first place in the league race.
The Crimson enjoyed a brief lead behind Captain Char Joslin's goal early in the second period, but Cornell's Mindy Bixby quickly erased the 1-0 lead with a goal 38 seconds later.
A goal by Melissa Gambrell put the Crimson in the hole, 2-1, but Sandra Whyte did the honors--tying the game three minutes into the third period.
Harvard failed to take advantage from the momentum of a 4-3 win over St. Lawrence Saturday afternoon. Lauren Messmore tallied a pair of goals.
