help provide housing for their union employees.

Last night, Bozzotto spoke proudly of his union's positions. "What it said to angry workers was, `It's okay to question authority,' " the union president said. The first thing Malone did at his acceptance rally was to call out Bozzotto's name and embrace him.

Bozzotto derided the Democratic candidate for governor, John R. Silber, saying his comments indicated he was anti-immigrant and anti woman. He labeled Silber, "George Wallace with a brain," referring to the former Alabama governor who was an ardent segregationist.

Osborn, who is president of the Mass. AFL-CIO, grew bitter when asked about Local 26's defection. "Their membership voted against them, "he said. Osborn also claimed that Local 26 is no longer a member of the state AFL-CIO, contrary to assertions in its brochures and posters.

Bozzotto said Weld's victory was likely to give his union access that others would not enjoy. " Obviously, it's going to be a little easier for us to pick up the phone than a union that endorsed Dr. Know-it-all," said Bozzotto, slipping in another jab at Silber. "We got together the facts. We got people to understand the problem," said Cambridge Mayor Alice K. Wolf. According to city estimates, the CLT Petition would have cost Cambridge between $12 and $ 24 million.

The Pipettes, a musical group consisting of members of the Harvard Union of Clerical and Techinical Workers(HUCTW), led the anti-CLT forces in their post-election rally. Ironically, Stickers from HUCTW's initial organizing campaign were among those plastered on the walls at Local 26's offices, which served as headquarters for the pro-CLT effort.
