Huskies Humble W. Ruggers

By Sean Becker

The Radcliffe rugby team was honored to receive an invitation to last weekend's New England Rugby Tournament, but maybe the Crimson should have declined to attend.

After victories earlier this season over Brown and MIT earned Radcliffe an automatic bid to the Storrs, Conn., tourney, the University of Connecticut proved to be an ungracious host. The Huskies soundly beat the Crimson, 11-0, in a first-round matchup Saturday.

The Crimson (3-2-2) was beaten literally as well. Scrum half Keiko Morris was the primary casualty of the aggressive UConn attack. Morris, who was playing with splints, fractured a tibia during the second half. Kathryn Cahir, who is normally a flanker, was forced to assume Morris' position for the rest of the afternoon.

"They were a lot stronger than the teams we've played in the last few weeks," Cahir said.

"They were just a very well coached team," Radcliffe fly half lris Tong said. "We actually played pretty well for the first twenty minutes of the game, but then we lost our concentration. Even though we lost, it was a good game."
