RPI Coach Mike Addesa has resigned after 10 seasons as the head coach of the Engineer hockey program, Renselaaer administrators announced Friday.
Addesa's resignation came just six weeks after The Troy Record reported that Addesa had made racial slurs to Grahaem Townshend, a Black player on the Engineer team. Addesa held a press conference in Troy in mid-March to make a public apology for his remarks, but minority student groups continued to protest and call for his resignation.
In his 10 seasons at Renselaaer, Addesa amassed a 188-124-9 record and led the Engineers to an NCAA Championship and two ECAC regular-season and tournament titles. Addesa was named ECAC Coach of the Year in 1985.
