Caprio and Allen Named All-EIBL

Despite a disappointing 9-9 Eastern League record (16-18 overall), the Harvard baseball team still landed two players--Co-Captain Frank Caprio and freshman Aron Allen--on the All-EIBL first team.

Caprio, an excellent defensive outfielder, won the Wingate Award as the team's most valuable player and the Wendell Bat Award for offensive production. In addition to hitting. 300, Caprio--who played defensive back for the Ivy League champion Harvard football team--led the Crimson with three home runs, 21 runs batted in and 32 hits.

Allen, who played third base and catcher, hit 290 with two home runs and 19 RBIs in his rookie season. The freshman was especially impressive in the team's first weekend of EIBL play. Against Brown and Yale that weekend, Allen went 10-for-12 with two homers and 10 RBIs to earn Player of the Week honors.

Zeus

In addition to Caprio and Allen, sophomore pitcher Mike Dorrington was named All-EIBL honorable mention. The powerful righthander posted a 6-5 record to lead the team in wins.

The Crimson also placed four players on the Greater Boston League All-Star team. Caprio and Dorrington were joined by Co-Captain and catcher Frank Morelli and outfielder Dan McConaghy, who hit .303 to lead the team.

McConaghy, who has led the team in hitting for the past two seasons, was elected captain for the 1989 season.
