To the Editors of the Crimson:

The brass tacks piece by Adriane Y. Stewart ("Going After Black Frats," May 18) gives the impression that the issues in debate between my office and those groups have to do with the fact that they are Black. Stewart also discusses the possible lack of understanding of the Black experience and so on. Actually, I am concerned with them as single-sex institutions. The same issues arose with the final clubs that wish to use our facilities, and it is well known that we have severed our ties with them. I do not think that we should have a double standard when it comes to Black fraternities and sororities. My comments about the possible application of the Massachusetts Anti-Hazing Law to the initiation practices of those groups was meant to warn them that the prolonged, regimented pledge periods may violate the spirit of the law.
