In Guarded Mass Hall Office, Bok Declines to Comment

By Emily M. Bernstein

From behind locked and guarded doors in Mass Hall, President Bok refused to comment on the student protest at the Law School, which concluded yesterday afternoon.

Bok, who returned at noon yesterday from a dinner in Washington, D.C., for Harvard alumni in Congress, said in an interview yesterday that he had not spoken to Law School Dean James Vorenberg '49 about the protest, and that he had received only second-hand information about the situation at the Law School.

Meanwhile, a guard remained posted outside Mass Hall, unlocking the inner door for people entering and leaving the building. Since the protest began on Tuesday, the building has been watched continuously by at least one officer.

Bok late yesterday afternoon met with the U.S. ambassador to India in his office.
