BURLINGTON, VT.--Junior center Kyle McDonough scored twice including a goal 27 seconds into the game to lead Vermont to an 8-0 throttling of Colgate in an ECAC Division 1 Quarterfinal playoff game last night.
McDonough deflected a Jerry Tarrant slapshot from the right point past Colgate goalie Wayne Cowley. McDonough added his 17th goal of the season at 4:23 of the third period.
Vermont, outshooting Colgate, 39-12, also had goals by Ian Boyce, at 5:21 of the first period, and 28 seconds later, a power-play goal by Toby Ducolon.
After a scoreless second period, the Catamounts blew things open, scoring five times in the third period on goals by freshman John LeClair, Stephane Venne, McDonough, Ricker Love and Dan Lambert.
Vermont freshman goalie Mike Millham only needed 12 saves to record the shutout.
