As Gov. Michael S. Dukakis and President-elect George Bush met yesterday in Washington to mend fences after a bitter run for the White House, two of their top strategists, Roger Ailes and Jack Corrigan, and handlers for all the major candidates in Campaign '88 descended on Cambridge for a closed-doors conference sponsored by the Institute of Politics.

The top politicos are meeting to produce a definitive book on the election past, student organizers of the meeting said late last night. Many of the campaign officials will be having lunch in house dining halls today, the organizers said. Staff members for the failed campaigns of Sen. Jospeh Biden (D-Del.) and former Sen. Gary Hart (D-Col.) will not be participating, the organizers said.
