As Gov. Michael S. Dukakis and President-elect George Bush met yesterday in Washington to mend fences after a bitter run for the White House, two of their top strategists, Roger Ailes and Jack Corrigan, and handlers for all the major candidates in Campaign '88 descended on Cambridge for a closed-doors conference sponsored by the Institute of Politics.

The top politicos are meeting to produce a definitive book on the election past, student organizers of the meeting said late last night. Gary Hart (D-Col.) will not be participating, the organizers said.
