Our tolerance ran out before we could hit every bar in the Square, but here's a list of other places to try.

The Border Cafe (32 Church St.) Very yuppie, always crowded. Tex/Mex atmosphere, complete with white washed walls. Fancy tropical drinks in all colors--including blue.

Bow and Arrow Pub (Arrow St.). A weird mix between bikers and Harvard students. Pitchers of beer are really cheap.

Church St. Bar and Grill (50 Church St.). Red checked tableclothes and a juke box. Less crowded than most Square bars.

Grendel's Den Bar (89 Winthrop St.). Downstairs at Grendel's Restaurant. Dark, smoky with a very eclectic crowd. Serves funky happy hour food.

Nick's Beef and Beer (1688 Mass. Ave.). Comfortable decor. Hard drinker's atmosphere. Cheap pitchers.

One Potato Two Potato (1280 Mass. Ave.). Green formica and wood tables. Not very crowded. Expensive.

Plough and Stars (Mass. Ave. toward Central Square). Dark and crowded. Live music occasionally.

Regattabar (One Bennett St., in the Charles Hotel). A jazz bar with a fancier atmosphere than most Square bars. Often has a cover charge. Good, big martinis.

Shay's Wine Bar (58 JFK St.) Best in warm weather when outside tables are available. Upscale crowd. Wine and beer only.
