To the Editors of The Crimson:

We have received scattered reports that a chain letter scheme involving U.S. Savings Bonds has surfaced in Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Tennessee, and Mississippi. As you know, these schemes can spread rapidly. The Bureau of Public Dept has asked Federal Reserve Banks to contact all issuing agents informing them of the development.

Please initiate action to notify the general public that Saving Bond chain letters are prohibited and violate Treasury and Postal regulations of New England state laws.

Your cooperation in communicating this important message to our citizens is greatly appreciated. John A. Williams   Boston District Director Department of the Treasury U.S. Saving Bond Division
