Golf Third at HYPs

In its first match of the season, the Harvard men's golf team finished in third place yesterday at the Harvard-Yale-Princeton tournament (HYPs) held at Yale.

The match was moved from Harvard to Yale because the Country Club (Harvard's home course) was flooded over the week.

"Playing at home is an advantage," Harvard's John Beizer said. "We haven't practiced in four days because of the rain. If we had played at home--we would have won."

For the Crimson, Tom Aucamp shot a 74, which was the second-best score of the day. Terry Murray (76), Doug Albrecht (76), John Beizer (83) and Pat Barry (83) rounded out the scoring for the Crimson.

Harvard finished with 392 points, placing the golfers third behind Princeton (385) and Yale (389).

The golfers will travel to Providence to compete against Boston College, Providence and Brown next Tuesday. The match is a tune-up for the Ivy League Tournament, which will be held next week in New York.
