Harvard's 14-9 victory over Brown not only kept the Crimson in the Ivy lead, but also helped catapult Harvard into the NCAA polls for the first time since 1985. The 6-1 Crimson garnered four points and is ranked 20th in the NCAA Division 1-AA poll released yesterday.
The ranking may be short-lived, however, as the Crimson faces Division 1-AA's top-ranked team, Holy Cross, this weekend at Soldiers Field.
The mighty Crusaders are currently averaging 54 points a game, and have not been challenged this season, although some do consider last week's Holy Cross 54-10 victory as the Crusaders' first true challenge of the season.
Although Holy Cross is favored by as many four touchdowns, the Crimson may have a chance if Crusader Coach Mark Duffner doesn't know who his team will be playing.
In yesterday's Boston Globe, Duffner was quoted talking about the Harvard defense: "I also think they have a great defense and I'm impressed with tackle Greg Williams, middle guard Jim Bell and adjuster Jack Patterson...."
Patterson hasn't played for the Crimson in five weeks since he was suspended from school.
