An unsung hero will again lead the Crimson football squad when it seeks to defend its Ivy crown next year.
Junior Don Peterson will become the second defensive end in a row to captain the Crimson when he takes over the 1988 team. Peterson called being selected "the ultimate thrill in my life."
"There's every reason to believe we're going to keep the trophy at Harvard for a long time," added Peterson, who as a first year starter was first or second in several defensive categories. "I hope to carry on the championship tradition of my predecessor, Kevin Dulsky."
Several of Peterson's teammates said they respected his work ethic and skills as a motivator. "He really cares about his teammates," said Dulsky. "He's a hard worker [and] a great representative for the Harvard football team."
"I think he's a great football player," said sophomore Duke Pascucci, who often had the pleasure of facing off against Peterson in practice. "He has tremendous leadership qualities," Pascucci added.
Peterson, at 6-ft., 2-in. and 220 pounds, tied for second in tackles with 44 and was third in sacks with four. His two fumble recoveries earned him a tie for the Crimson lead in that category.
