Retiring Secretary of Defense Caspar W. Weinberger '38 has postponed tonight's scheduled speech at the Kennedy School of Government because he is in the process of moving out of his office, said Kennedy School spokesman Stephen Singer.
Weinberger's speech has been rescheduled for December 3. On that date, Weinberger will address issues concerning the future course of U.S. defense policy.
A retirement ceremony was scheduled this morning at the Defense Department for Weinberger. The ceremony "may have additionally precluded his availability to go to Cambridge," said Defense Department spokesman Major Alan Freitag.
Weinberger is leaving his post because he wants to spend more time with his ailing wife. Frank Carlucci, his successor, is scheduled for confirmation by the Senate this week.
