Icewomen Sweep

The Harvard women's ice hockey team defeated Cornell, 4-0, Saturday, and topped RIT, 3-2, the following day to record a difficult road sweep.

The victories extended the icewomen's winning streak to three games and improved the squad's record to 8-2 on the year (4-0 Ivy).

Freshman Char Joslin scored two goals against Cornell and Captain Julie Sasner tallied twice against RIT to power the meteoric Crimson.

"The sweep was very important because it's tough to keep up conditioning with the Christmas break," said Sasner, a junior.

Harvard Coach John Dooley had nothing but praise for his players, emphasizing the difficulty of performing well in the shadow of exams. "We've been trying to get a total team effort and we've been very close to getting it," Dooley said.

Sophomore goalie Jennifer White chipped in with an exceptional performance for the Crimson, turning aside a breakaway in each contest. "She always comes through for us in the big games," junior Karen Carney said, "and this was so important because it's such a long and difficult trip to Cornell."

Lonely Lynah

Traditionally, visits to Ithaca, N.Y., are made particularly memorable by the partisan fans at Lynah Rink--but with Cornell still on break, the icewomen escaped appearing in front of the usual throngs.

Neither game of the road trip was close. The Crimson's only scare came against RIT when, after holding a 3-0 lead late in the third period, the squad allowed a pair of goals before time ran out.

Harvard's next homestand will take place Saturday, January 31, and Sunday, February 1, against Brown and Yale.
