Things just keep on ticking for the Harvard men's squash team.
The racquetmen clobbered the Army Cadets, 10-0, Saturday at Hemenway Gymnasium in front of 20 spectators and improved their record to 3-0 on the season.
The victory extended Harvard's winning streak to 50 consecutive games, and its shut-out streak to three.
"We take it one match at a time. We don't go into the match saying, `Oh God, we've won 50, here's 51," Crimson Co-Captain Kevin Jernigan said of the winning streak. "We can't expect to win because we already won before. We stay away from extraneous stuff."
The racquetmen entered the match without their number one and two players, Darius Pandole and Rusty Ball, who were competing in a tournament in Phildelphia.
"We weren't at full strength, so it was nice to see our guys play well," Crimson Assistant Coach Peter Dinneen said. "Five of the guys that played are on the JV team, and we didn't lose a game--it was a testament to our depth."
In the opening match, Greg Lee (usually number eight, but playing at number four against the Cadets) smashed Army's Brett Wiggs, 18-16, 15-4, 15-8 to start the rout for the Crimson.
Seth Handy, one of the five junior varsity players in action, destroyed Army's Kevin Lembe in three straight games, 15-9, 15-4, 15-2.
William Iselin, playing in the number one slot, trounced the Cadets' Mica Imnanura, 15-6, 15-12, 15-8, to give the Crimson a 7-0 lead.
And after sitting out the first two matches of 1986-'87 because of injuries, Jernigan opened his season with a convincing 15-5, 15-7, 15-6 decision over Army's John Tyree.
The Crimson hosts Williams January 14, and then faces its toughest home opponent, Franklin & Marshall, January 16.
THE NOTEBOOK: Former Harvard squash star Kenton Jernigan is currently a second-semester senior...Harvard broke a school-record of 49 consecutive wins with its victory over Army.
