Man Who Managed Clients for High-End Cambridge Brothel Network Pleads Guilty
Paul Vallone, Jim Chenevey, and Ed Toland combined for a four-hitter, and Crimson batters collected 11 hits as the Harvard baseball team defeated Holy Cross, 9-3, in Worcester yesterday.
The Crimson improved its record to 7-4 overall, while the Crusaders fell to 8-5.
In his first six innings on the mound, Vallone--usually the squad's starting centerfielder--faced only one batter above the minimum and recorded 11 outs via infield ground balls.
And through the sixth inning, the southpaw had surrendered only one base on balls and just one hit--the only ball that left the infield.
After giving up three runs on three hits in the seventh inning, Vallone was replaced by Chenevey--who struck out the side in the eighth--and Toland, who also set down the side in order.
In his only previous pitching appearance this season, Vallone threw against Boston University and pitched a flawless inning.
But he wasn't the only Crimson player making a repeat performance yesterday at Fitton Field.
Catcher Frank Morelli and shortstop Mike Pakalnis, who homered against Brown three days ago, treated teammates and Crimson fans to an encore against the Crusaders by ripping pitches from Cross starter Bill Davison over the wall.
"We had a little trouble early on," Morelli said, "but we adjusted by the second time in the order."
Morelli's two-run shot accounted for Harvard's first runs of the ballgame in the third inning, and Pakalnis--who picked up three hits in the contest--opened the following inning with a solo shot.
Back-to-back doubles by Craig Boulris and Frank Caprio gave the visitor a 4-0 advantage in the fourth frame and sent Davison to the showers. Crimson 9, Cruaders 3 at Fitton Field
