Welcome again to the crazy world of house football, where two-point conversions are the norm and centers double as quarterbacks.

In yesterday's second game at Soldiers Field, Adams/Mather defeated the expansion Currier squad, 14-8, for its first win of the young season. But Currier (0-1) was by no means distraught over the outcome.

"There's a lot of pride on this team," Currier Coach Bill Corbett said following the game. "After the first half, we got our stuff together. Once we get an offensive backfield together, we'll start winning."

While linebacker Sam Pedroza accounted for clutch tackles, Corbett and defensive back Coley Buellsfeld stopped Adams/Mather progress with a pair of interceptions.

But despite those two miscues, the passing of Adams/Mather quarterback Rob Lowe paid off for the winner, as the junior signal-caller connected with wingback Kermit Alexander for two touchdowns.

"Our passing game was great, and our throws were on the mark," said tailback Buddy Fletcher, who played QB for last year's team.

In the fourth quarter, runs by Fletcher and Alexander put the A/M squad (which also includes players from Dunster and Dudley Houses) in scoring position at the Currier 3, setting up a Lowe-to-Alexander TD pass. The score stood at 14-0 after the failed two-pointer.

Currier, beginning on its own 35 with about one minute remaining, tallied its points when Corbett--moving from center to quarterback after an injury to starter Paul Zielinski--connected with Rob Garmaise on a post pattern for a touchdown.

The two-pointer cut the Adams/Mather lead to six points, but the ensuing onside kick, and the lead, remained in Adams' hands.

In other house football action, Quincy recorded its second consecutive 8-0 victory, this time defeating Eliot/Lowell on Tuesday.

On its second offensive series, Quincy quarterback Pat Sullivan rolled out to the right on a pass play, elected to run around right end, and cut against the grain en route to the end zone.

Kirkland defeated Cabot/North 6-0 in Tuesday's other game.

In yesterday's first game, Leverett raised its record to 2-0 with a 28-0 whitewash of Winthrop.

"Our passing game was non-existent," Winthrop wide receiver Gerard Coughlin said. "It seemed like we were one step away, or one second behind in patterns. The timing wasn't good."

Leverett dominated both ends of the field. Woody Lennon burned Winthrop with his outside running, while the Leverett defense effectively stopped the Winthrop ground game.
