The Harvard men's track team was soundly defeated by Northeastern, 87-49, Saturday at the Albert H. Gordon Indoor Track and Tennis Center.

"They had more depth than us," Coach Frank Haggerty said.

While acknowledging the superiority of the Northeastern squad, Haggerty noted that the timing of the meet was awkward.

"It's tough coming back right after the Christmas break," Haggerty said. "I didn't see some of the kids until, well--the meet."

Senior Doug Boyd, who won the high jump with a leap of 6-ft., 11-in., agreed with Haggerty. "We were calling people the day before the meet to make sure they'd be there," Boyd said.

Nevertheless, the Crimson had several strong performances. Paul Kent was a double winner in the mile and 1,000 meters, and freshman Sean Turbitt turned in an excellent effort to place third in a photo-finish 55-meter hurdles.
