Garber Privately Tells Faculty That Harvard Must Rethink Messaging After GOP Victory
The Harvard women's lacrosse team yesterday won its 13th straight Ivy League contest, downing an outclassed Brown squad in Providence, R. I.
With its 11-3 thrashing of the host Bruins, Harvard remained undefeated Eight play this year and the favorite to cop its fifth straight Ivy title.
The trumph upped the Crimson's Ivy mark to 3-0, good enough for second place in the standings behind 4-0 Yale.
Harvard and Yale--on target for a championship showdown--will meet later this month on Soldiers Field.
Yesterday on Stevenson Field at Brown the nation's eighth ranked Harvard squad had little trouble winning its 25th Ivy contest in its last 27 Ancient Eight outings.
Behind a sharp passing game the visitors moved out to 5-0 halftime lead.
On the way to the 11-3 victory. Harvard got its usual strong performance from senior Lisa Black the squad's leading scorer. Sophomore Kelly McBride and freshmen Kate Felsen and Cindy Ersek all helped too adding two goals apiece. Junior Bambi Taylor added one.
The star though was junior defender Genie Simmons who completely shut down high scoring Bruin star Lauren Becker.
"The team played really well." McBride said, "but Genie just played amazingly I don't know if [Becker] even touched the ball all day."
The victory upped Harvard's overall record to 7-4 Brown fell to 3-5 overall and 1-4 in the Ivy league.
