Cornell Burns Cagers, 77-63

The Harvard women's basketball team finished its disappointing road schedule with a disappointing second half performance against Cornell last night, dropping a 76-63 decision.

The Crimson (8-17 overall, 2-9 Isies) ended the year at on the road. The hoopsters are 3-36 away from home over the last three years.

The Big Red scored the game's first seven points, but Harvard soon struck back led by Sharon Hayes (a team high 16 on the night), the cagers caught the hosts and passed them in the closing minutes of the half.

Harvard took a 34-26 lead into halftime, largely due to its 41.8 percent shooting from the field Cornell sank only 38.7 percent of its attempts.

But the Big Red caught fire in the second half, burning the Crimson from the outside.

Led by the bombs of Julie Croddy (a game-high 23 points) and Mary Brown (21). Cornell shot a scorching 54.8 percent from the field in the second half.

Harvard, meanwhile, connected on only 35.0 percent of as second half floor shots.

The hosts pulled even with the Cantabs midway through the second half, and never relinquished the lead again.

The cagers' last minute comeback efforts were hundred by foul trouble. Both regular point guards--Barb Kelly and Anne Kelly--fouled out in the game's final three minutes.

The Crimson was once again hurt from the foul line Cornell outscored the cagers, 18-7 from the charity stripe.
