NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

To the Editors of the Crimson:

I don't know who was responsible for planning the tribute to Dr. Mortin Luther King at Memorial Church on Tuesday, but the size of the potential audience for this event given the presence of Reverend Jesse Jackson and advertising outside the Harvard community was seriously underestimated--reflecting political naivete and/or insensitivity. Contrary to what was reported in the Crimson, the overflow crowd which was locked out of the church did not consist mainly of students but included many members of the black community outside of Harvard. The crowed was not even publicly informed that no one else would be admitted until thirty minutes after the doors were locked at about 11:15, I personally witnessed leaders of the black community having to plead with security personnel to be allowed inside and in some cases bring denied entrance. No arrangements were made for videotaping or broadcasting the event for people not accommodated inside. An apology is due to those who might have an event of this importance adequate logistical would be obvious necessity Anna H. Wexler   Graduate School Of Education
