Early Admits Visit Next Week

Harvard will be giving the hard sell next week to about 300 high school senior who were accepted under the Early Action program.

The three-day event, lasting from Monday through Wednesday will include a speech by President Bok, student faculty receptions in the Houses, opportunities to attend classes, and a starting party at Bright Hockey Center.

Harvard doesn't stop at anything for these prospective Harvard freshmen because they have usually turned out to be "the strongest in the class," according to Cornell M. Jackson the admission officer coordinating the program.

"These are the people about whom we would have no question to admit in April," Jackson said "They stand out enough in national terms."

This effort to attract the Early Action candidates began three years ago as an attempt to get as many of these students as possible to accept Harvard's offer. In the last two years, over 90 percent of those students who attended the event wound up coming to Harvard in the fall.
