IOP Fellows Introduced

The six new Visiting Fellows at the Institute of Politics (IOP) introduced themselves to Harvard last night in a round table discussion at the Kennedy School.

The fellows this semester include former Mississippi Governor William F Winters, who said he hadn't planned on coming to Harvard until he lost a race for the U.S. Senate.

"I have kicked around in politics in Mississippi for a long time," he said "Kicked out is more appropriate now."

Daniel K. Whitehurst, former mayor of Fresno, Calif., said that "When I began [Fresno] was called an all-American city. On my last year it was rated the nation's least-livable city. It is on the basis of these achievements that I am with you now."

The fellows will lead extracurricular study groups and do research at the Kennedy School.

The other fellows include Lamond Goodwin, Political Director of the National Rainbow Coalition: Karlyn H. Keene, Managing Editor of Public Opinion: Joelle Attinger, correspondent for Time; and Hendrik Hertzberg '65, former editor of The New Republic.
