The Harvard men's tennis team closed out its regular season yesterday with a 5-4 win over a visiting Princeton team.
The match, which was moved indoors after rain pelted the Beren Tennis Center for several hours, marked the first time in recent history that the victor of the Harvard Princeton match didn't claim the Ivy League title.
Columbia, which defeated Harvard earlier this year, copped the title and will advance to the NCAA team tournament later this month.
Harvard will send top seeded Larry Scott and the doubles team of Rob Loud and Dave Beckman to the individual NCAA tourney also later this month.
Yesterday on the indoor courts, Loud and Beckman both lost in singles but came back to snag the number one doubles victory.
In singles, only number-two seeded Bill Stanley, fifth-seeded Darryl Laddin and sixth-seeded Sy Fountaine snagged wins.
Down 4.3 after a loss in the number-three doubles, Harvard reared back with victories in the top two doubles positions--from Loud and Beckman at number one and Scott and Laddin at number two.
Thursday's match against Clemson, which was to have been the season-ending match, has been cancelled.
