A Holiday Ode

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

'Twas two weeks before Christmas.

And the campus throughout.

Twelve wrestlers were sweating.

To prepare for a bout.

The hoopsters were rolling.

The icemen were hot.

The fencers were folding.

The grapplers were not.

Parties were rocking.

And formally galore.

To Springfield they travelled.

To be pounded for sure.

Some finals are coming.

Nine finals were going.

The matmen were hoping.

To have a good a showing.

From the Quad to the River,

From Maine to the Cape,

From Springfield's wrath

Does no one escape.

Ranked first in New England,

Springfield looked tough.

The Crimson ranked second,

But that's not enough.

Like drinks at the Pi,

They quickly went down.

There goes Medalie,

With hardly a sound.

Beck lost a squeaker

By just 10 to eight.

But Clark didn't lose--

Not the match--but the weight.

Goodbye Freeman,

Goodbye Holmes.

Soon two more matches

Quickly were blown.

Christmas is coming,

In the air there's a nip.

Soon our wrestlers were losing

Twenty-five-zip.

With little hope left,

And few matches to go.

They started to rally,

And made it a show.

The mighty Bausano

Stepped onto the mat,

With a record that's perfect.

And nine wins at that.

The whistle then sounded.

They heaved and they hauled.

And when it was over.

The opponent was mauled.

The lead quickly dwindled,

Twas no longer a chase,

McGinty, then Wiesen

Had made it a race.

The grapplers rallied.

They'd have made Derek proud.

But he was at Mather

Addressing the crowd.

By the end of the meet.

After excitement a-plenty

The grapplers had lost it.

By 25-20.

But there's no need to worry.

No need to despair.

The season's not rolling,

'Til the Ivies are here.

Then says Coach Lee.

You'd better watch out.

'Cause the grapplers are planning

To make that a rout.

Merry Christmas too all,

And to all a good night.

The wrestlers did lose it,

But they put up some fight.
