Three Harvard upperclassmen garnered first-team All-Ivy men's soccer honors yesterday, but a Crimson freshman from England stole the spotlight.

Midfielder Nick Hotchkin, a reserve for the English National Under-18 Schoolboy team a year ago and the hero of the Crimson's 1-0 double-overtime upset of the University of Connecticut in Storrs, Conn. Sunday, was named the Ivy League Rookie of the Year.

The freshman sensation, who scored the winning goal in the 10-st minute in the NCAA showdown Sunday, is Harvard's first men's soccer Ivy Rookie of the Year.

Meanwhile, junior forward John Catliff, a member of the 1984 Canadian Olympic team, sophomore midfielder Paul Nicholas and junior defender Ian Hardington were named to the All-Ivy's prestigious first team.

Catliff has spearhead a dangerous Crimson attack that will face UCLA Sunday in the quarterfinals of the NCAA tourney. He leads the team with 10 goals and five assists for 25 points.

Nicholas has scored four goals and recorded seven assists for 15 points, while Hardington has anchored a defense that hasn't allowed a goal in the last 459:53 minutes of play.

Hotchkin and junior Captain Lane Kenworthy were named to the All-Ivy second team, while sophomore Nikhil Singh received honorable mention.

The All-Ivy squads are selected by a vote of the Ivy League coaches.

Only Columbia, which boasts the Ivy Player of the Year in Solomon Gayle, placed as many players as Harvard on the first team.
