Poor Burton S. Dreben '49. He takes a well-deserved year of leave, and no one notices he's gone. Worse, he's not even gone.

The ploymath professor of Philosophy by still engaged in his formidable administrative task of organizing the ad hoc committees that culminate the tenure-granting process, despite technically being on leave.

"Professor Dreben never goes anywhere. He likes it here," says a source in University Hall. "He doesn't like to travel. Don't make it sound like he's never invited anywhere."

"There was just too much work to do." Dreben says to explain his presence. "Sometimes one has responsibilities."
