Organized Harvard support for Sen Gary Hart (D-Colo.)'s Presidential campaign got underway last night with a meeting at the Freshman Union.
A Hart spokesman told about 20 students that the organization--Harvard Students with Hart is a "flagship" for the campaign.
Hart's campaign strategy relies heavily on active support from college students, said Jack Weir, adding that he and other Hart supporters hope the senator's attitudes will appeal especially to students.
So far students in the Boston area--especially at Tufts and Boston Universities--have responded favorably to campaign efforts, Weir said.
Weir said he plans to have Harvard students campaign in Boston and throughout New England and aims to increase Hart's name recognition.
The first campaign activity, planned for this weekend is a canvassing trip to New Hampshire in preparation for the February 28 primary.
"We'd like to make a big splash this weekend while the media attention is on us," Weir said.
