Another nail was driven into the coffin of the Confederacy last week when the University of Mississippi announced it will no longer fly the Confederate flag at official university functions.

Use of the Confederate flag as a university symbol has drawn the ire of Black students for some time. A group of them recently drew up a list of demands that included banning use of the flag.

White students held a counter-demonstration to save the "Stars and Bars." Tensions flared but no major confrontation took place according to university spokesman Ed Meek. The Chronicle of Higher Education
