The controversy that has been heating up for weeks over Playboy magazine's upcoming feature. "Girls of the ACC" exploded this month.
On May 2, nearly 200 students rallied at the University of Maryland's central mall to protest the feature and demand that the magazine's photographers be banned from campus.
Bunnies and Chicks
The University of Maryland is one of the several schools that form the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC).
"We want to expose that Playboy is not harmless," said Madge McQueen, one of the rally's organizers. Playboy, she said, portrays women "as bunnies, foxes, chicks. It still exposes the fact that we're still vaginas in women's bodies."
Nude Pictures
Playboy photographer David Chan spent several days on campus just prior to the rally selecting six women from the university for the special issue. He was to return later to take the pictures that will appear in the magazine. The UMD Diamondback
