Though the Eastern Intercollegiate Baseball League schedule comes to a close this weekend, don't expect to know the winner Monday.
Entering the final weekend of currently scheduled games, 12-3-1 Harvard holds a one game edge over 11-4-1 Navy Harvard travels to third place Dartmouth for a doubleheader Saturday and Navy battles Cornell in a twinbill at Penn State Sunday.
The Crimson and the Midshipmen ended the second half of their April 17 doubleheader in a 3-3 deadlock when darkness stopped the game. League rules dictate that no game that has a beating on determining the champion may stand as a tie.
"The league rules are clear," Eastern College Athletic Conference Assistant Commissioner Brian Petrovek said yesterday. "The game would have to be made up."
The league is composed of ECAC schools. So unless Harvard sweeps Dartmouth and Navy loses at least one to cornell, the Crimson's league season will extend beyond this weekend.
And if Harvard doesn't sweep that brings 8-4-0 Dartmouth into the picture...
