If on Tuesday you should happen to spot a white 1983 Pontiac Firebird with blue stars on the roof and the words "Capitol of Air" on that side in huge red letter, the man behind the wheel will be George W. Polk '85.
Polk won the car in a sweepstakes conducted by the airline last December. Although he said yesterday that he is not a regular sweepstakes player, Polk explained that he filled out an entry form while waiting for his flight home to France last Christmas, because he had nothing else to do.
He added that he found out he had won when his roommate, who answered the call from the airline, left him a note.
Polk, who says he has never won anything before, compared winning the sportscar to "waking up in the morning and finding your laundry done."
Airline officials will present the car in the Adams House resident on Tuesday. Photographers will be present to snap pictures of the district sales manager of Capital Airways handling the keys to Polk.
Polk said the photographers were looking for "a picturesque Harvard scene"--possibly Harvard Yard--as background.
Polk described his prize as "the ugliest thing you've ever seen in your whole entire life," but said he plans to drive the $10.600 car around Cambridge for a couple of days so people can points at it before he sells it, for an estimated $8000-$8500.
