To the Editors of The Crimson:

It is interesting and somehow saddening that Harvard permits such conduct as occurred at the Kennedy School Monday evening, when Rev. Jerry Falwell spoke (or, as was often the case, attempted to speak). "Conduct unbecoming a Harvard student" is, I believe, still technically grounds for requirement to withdraw from the University; is Harvard, by its inaction in the fact of such blatant denial of constitutional liberties by members of the Harvard community, acknowledging that this behavior is within the bounds of conduct becoming a Harvard student?

It is equally interesting and equally saddening that those persons who engaged in disruptive behavior did so, not simply ignoring the First Amendment, but also ignoring the First Amendment, but also ignoring the ever-present example of the Spartacus Youth League. The SYL has attempted to use such tactics for years, and they arouse only antipathy toward themselves and their cause. I realize that the radical-fringe types have little respect for the constitution: I didn't realize, until last night, that they were so stupid.

I attended the speech last evening. When I arrived, it was with little respect for the ideas of Rev. Falwell but interest in hearing him out. When I left, I had far more respect for Falwell than for those of my peers whose outbursts interrupted the event. I have never been pro-Falwell, but now I am dedicatedly anti-anti-Falwell.
