Despite warm and balmy weather which helped create near-perfect conditions, the Radcliffe varsity lightweights crew, national collegiate champions, was beaten by the Smith College eight in its first and toughest race of the season. The first and second lightweight fours lost to UNH by five-and seven-second margins respectively but fared better against Northeastern, which they beat handily.
