Coming off a successful season that took them to Grand Forks. N.D. for the NCAA finals in March, the Harvard men's hockey team is making friends in high places closer to home.
Gov. Michael S. Dukakis will host the team for lunch at the State House later this month.
Dukakis had invited the team to dine at the capitol on April 26, perhaps following the lead of Cambridge Mayor Alfred E. Vellucci, who periodically tosses spaghetti fetes for the Harvard football team.
Following lunch, Dukakis will present the icemen with an official citation recognizing their accomplishments this season, according to Assistant Coach Ron Tomassoni.
Defenseman Neil K. Sheehy '83 said yesterday that he considers the invitation "an honor," and added that the team's gaining a berth in the NCAA finals seemed worthy of such recognition.
"It's something that an Eastern team hasn't won on Western ice in 13 years," he added.
