A college sophomore's ear became a temporary roach motel last month when one of the monstrous vermin established residence there and had to be evicted by a doctor at St Luke's Hospital.

The student was sleeping soundly in his Columbia University room when the six legged visitor awoke him. The cockroach travelled so far into his ear that he could not dislodge it, he said. When it moved I was really in bad pain, said the student who asked not to be named.

He went to St. Luke's Hospital to have the roach removed, the student said. Initially, he said, he was embarrassed to explain his predicument, but he was told by an orderly that people frequently come to the hospital complaining that cockroaches have crawled in their ears.
