The Harvard women's tennis team mounted a tremendous comeback at the first ever ECAC tournament over the weekend. But host Princeton recovered just in time to hold off the charging Crimson and take a 97-93 victory.
The Crimson dug a deep hole for itself on Friday. A Knee injury to Friday Smith forced her to default on her number two singles and number two doubles matches. By the end of the day. Harvard trailed the Tigers by 50 points.
But Saturday proved to be a clean sweep for the Crimson, which won all 14 of its matches. And on Sunday, Elizabeth Evans took a key singles match from Princeton's Joy Cummings, 7-6, 6-3. In the B flight singles, Harvard players won both semifinals. Robin Boss and Kathy Vigna didn't bother to play the final.
With the score knotted at 93. Tigers Jan Shelburn and Cummings overcame the part of Evans and Boss, 6-3, 7-6, to grab the tourney's decisive four points.
