Harvard's croquet team best Brown this weekend in Boston, 19-10, to become the Eastern regional champion.

Eight eastern schools each sent two teams of two players to the tournament which took place October 28-30 in New York. The final game in the series was postponed until Saturday by darkness.

The Harvard team, which was founded three years ago following Yale's lead. "It was originally a social thing-I had occasion to see my friends from Yale and it was a lot of fun. It's a game you can play for the rest of your life, usually in nice locations, like New York and Palm Beach," said senior Peter Kelly.

For two years only Harvard and Yale played, and Yale won. But Harvard coach Xandra Kayden last year helped organize the intercollegiate league, and Harvard's growing experience has driven it to the top of the standings. Last year Harvard won the tournament and beat Yale.

The Yale game which takes place on the same weekend as The Game, is likely to end up in Harvard's favor for the second year running. "We're definitely going to win against Yale," said Captain Kent Karlock.

The Harvard croquet team is officially considered a club sport, and members are reimbursed by the Athletic Department for their expenses. But while the University paid the way to New York, players have to finance their own expedition to Palm Beach, where the team plays in February.
