DOJ Sues Boston and Mayor Michelle Wu ’07 Over Sanctuary City Policy
On October 11, we endorsed the candidacy of Melvin H. King in the preliminary election. We reaffirm that endorsement and hope that Boston voters tomorrow will choose to cast then ballets for the former Massachusetts state representative.
King's opponent, Raymond L. Flynn, has attempted to convince the electorate that he has grown since his days as an anti-busing activist. He now claims that the two candidates platforms are "similar."
But what Flynn now says, King has been saying for years, and Flynn's inconsistency on vital issues such as taxation, minority representation, and social issues shows that he is a follower, not a leader.
Regardless of the election's outcome. King's candidacy will not be in vain. He has managed to mobilize a major segment of the city's population that had been ignored by City Hall. And Ray Flynn knows that he will have to make a special effort to reach out to those groups, or his stay in Parkman House will be a short one indeed.
