Standford students who last month formed a group called the "Stanford Community Against Reagan University" have enlisted the aid of a leading public interest law firm in its fight against the proposed Reagan library complex.

The center, "because of its affiliation with a political party and a political figure," would violate the university's charter, says a legal opinion issued by Public Advocates Inc., the state's leading public interest law firm.

The university's charter states that the institution "Shall forever be kept out of politics." The Hoover Institution, a Stanford political think-tank, is planning to build a museum. a library, and a center for public affairs named after the president. --The Stanford Daily
