One Week Left To Register for State Elections

Students have one week left to register for the November general election, in which most major state and county offices, including the governor ship and one United States Senate seat, are being contested.

Registration tables will be set up in front of Bay banks/Harvard Trust in the Square tomorrow between 3:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. The Cambridge Election Commission, located in the police station on Green St. in Central Square, will also be signing up voters until then. It will be open Saturday and on Tuesday until 10 p.m.

Both state representative races in which Harvard students may vote are uncontested, with incumbents Saundra Graham and Mr., Charles Flaherty assured re-election. Democratic State Senator Michael J. LePresti faces William Shakalis, a Socialist.

The major races this time are at the state level, and the most heated race is that for governor, in which former Governor Michael S. Dukakis will square off against Republican John W. Sears '56. Cambridge voters can also vote in elections for two national offices: both Senator Edward M. Kennedy '54 and Rep. Thomas P. O'Neill Jr. face heavily financed challenges to their re-election bids.

Five referenda will be on the ballot with the most attention going to an advisory statement calling for a nuclear arms moratorium, and a state constitutional amendment allowing the death penalty.

The Middle sex County District Attorney race and two contests for Governor's Council seats will also be on the ballot.
