Intramural Crew '82: Currier Cops Cup

For the first time in its long history, the Strauss Cup was "quadded" yesterday as a strong showing by Currier House boats in the intramural crew races sunk Eliot House's chances for the 1982 cup.

Eliot, for its part, dominated the waters, nabbing championships in the women's A and men's B divisions, placing second behind a strong Dunster boat in the men's A and hanging on for the third in the women's B category.

Currier, however, placed in the top five in all divisions. Their performance, when combined with an overpowering performance in other spring sports, should probably increase the five-point margin that separated the Houses at the end of the winter competition.

Yesterday the Quad Squad showed more than skill on the river. Two Carrier seniors looking to boost boat morale hung a banner from the B.U. bridge that read: "You keep the Preppies We'll take the Cup." In the same spirit, about 120 Currierites showed up at the races courtesy of a special shuttle bus chartered by House officials that travelled from Currier to Weld Boathouse all morning.

"We finally put Carrier on the map." Currier athletic secretary Chip Forsiglieri said after the race. "We found out that preppies aren't so bad; they make pretty tough opponents."
