In an effort to make their joint-degree program more flexible, the Business School and the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (GSAS) will form a new committee that will oversee the granting of diplomas.
The new panel will award degrees in the existing Business Economics joint program, and also administer new programs, including a planned degree in Decision Science.
The new plan--a Committee on Higher Degrees in Business Studies--will bring benefits to both sides of the river John R. Mar quand, secretary of the Faculty Council said "FAS is pleased to apply their skills to practical situations, while the Business School is eager to work more closely with those involved in the academic disciplines," he said, adding that he did not foresee any obstacles to winning the necessary Council approval.
The Ph.D program in Business Economics, begun 15 years ago, has been highly successful." Michael A Spence professor of Business Administration, said yesterday. The program in Business Economics, which includes a year of graduate study in Economics and a year of the MBA program at the B. School, will serve as a model for additional programs.
The Business School and GSAS will share the tuition for the joint programs under a yet-to-be decided formula.
