Grad Student Found Dead After Seizure

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

A Faculty of Arts and Sciences graduate student found dead Monday night apparently was the victim of a severe epileptic seizure, the Cambridge Medical Examiner said last night.

The body of Edward M. Hood was found in his 833 Mass Ave, apartment by his landlord. Medical Examiner George Hori said. Hood had died approximately 30 hours earlier. Hori added.

Hori said doctors will not know the specific cause of death until receiving the results of lab tests during the next two weeks.

Hood's body had several lumps on the head and back, indicating he had struck the wall several times, probably during an epileptic fit. Hori speculated that Hood died when suffocating after he had vomitted.

He had suffered periodically from severe epileptic attacks, Hori said.

"It's a shame," Hori said. "I think if someone had been watching him, this wouldn't have happened."

Edward I. Keenan, dean of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, said late last night he had not learned of Hood's death.
