Azelby Is 110th Grid Capt.

The Harvard football team yesterday announced the election of junior linebacker Joe Azelby, for two years a mainstay on the best defense in the Ivy League, as its 110th captain.

Harvard Coach Joe Restic made the announcement prior to the team's annual luncheon at the Faculty Club by unrolling the new captain's Crimson jersey before the team, as is tradition. When Azelby's big bright No. 50 appeared, a tremendous yell went up from the players.

Azelby, a native of Dumont, N.J., and a 1980 graduate of Bergen Catholic, was at a loss for words as Restic draped the jersey across his newest captain, amid the cheers of his teammates.

"Fint I'd just like to thank everybody..." Azelby started before being interrupted by more appleasse. "...Expecially the seniors--Oreg Brown and all the rest. I just hope I can live up to your expectations."

In his two years of varsity play at Harvard, the 6-ft., 3 in., 227-lb. Azelby has always done and more.

Taking over for the injured Brad Stina in his first game as a sophomore. Azelby went on to lead the team in tackles with 81 and was named both second-team All-Ivy and second team All-New England.

This season he again led the Crimson is lasted stops with 93 (including 66 find hits), helping Harvard to its first Ivy title since 1975.
