Wildcats Blank Crimson, 3-0

The University of New Hampshire field hockey team rolled over an unarmed Harvard squad, 3-0, at Soldiers Field yesterday, to win its first Division I encounter this season.

The Wildcats, the team that knocked Harvard out of the EAIAW playoffs in Springfield last November, took a 1-0 lead 12 minutes into the proceedings when star midfielder Carla Hesler flicked a penalty stroke past Crimson goalie Juliet Lamont.

Less than two minutes later Barb Marois made it 2-0, taking a Donna Modini pass and poking it home.

New Hampshire's talented defense shut down Harvard in the second half, and the stickwomen were unable to register even a shot on goal. The clincher came at 11:52, when Mary Ellen Cullinane took a centering pass in the slot and flicked it past Lamont to complete the scoring.

The loss was Harvard's first of the season. Previously, the squad had beaten Durham of England, 4-1, in an exhibition, and tied Bowdoin, a Division II club. UNH is now 1-2.

Harvard is not in action again until next Saturday against Penn.
