Dartmouth Trips Laxmen, 12-6; Harvard's Nullet Scores Two

The Harvard men's lacrosse team came back once, twice, three times, but on each occasion the laxmen's bid fell short, as they folded against a mediocre Dartmouth squad, 12-6, yesterday afternoon in Hanover, N.H.

With one game remaining in a soon-to-be-forgotten season, the laxmen's record stands at (close your eyes, Grady Watts) 3-8 overal and 2-4 in the Ivies (after a 5-1 championship slate last year.)

Yesterday, the laxmen atypically fell behind right at the start--just 52 seconds into the game--and never cut Dartmouth's margin to less than two goals after the first quarter.

Tom Marshall (four goals, two assists on the day) opened the scoring for the Big Green right off the opening face-off, and Dartmouth added two more first-quarter tallies for a 3-2 lead. Crimson freshman J. J. Nullet converted passes from Gary Pedroni and Mike Davis into scores at 5:18 and 14:15, respectively, to keep the Crimson close.

Dartmouth extended its lead to 5-2 in the second stanza, before Harvard middle Bobby Burr knocked in his fifth goal of the season at the 12:40 mark to narrow the margin to two.

To open the third quarter, the Big Green's Jim Golden nabbed his second of the game at 18 seconds of the period for a 6-3 Dartmouth advantage.

The Big Green then wrapped tallies around Pedroni's tenth goal of the year, which, combined with his two assists, increased his team-leading point total to 24.

A quick (1:15) score by Rich Doyle at the start of the fourth quarter gave the Crimson one last chance for a comeback, but Marshall popped in two quick goals of his own, at 1:52 and 2:55, and the game was sold to the men in the green jerseys. THE NOTEBOOK: Nullet, Doyle and Norm Forbush head into Saturday's final game of the season (against Adelphi, 2 p.m., Business School Field) tied for the team lead with 13 goals . . . Tim Pendergast had eight saves in the nets for the Crimson.
