Yale Forms Student Lobbying Group

By Compiled FROM College newspapers

NEW HAVEN. Conn.--Yale University's student government voted this week to form a statewide student lobbying group to oppose, cuts in federal financial aid.

The Yale College Council will ask other colleges in Connecticut to join the lobby, and, if they accept, will send letters to the House Budget Committee, offering to testify on the impact of proposed budget cutbacks.

Reagan Seeks Program Cuts

President Reagan has asked Congress for reductions in three federal programs that aid college students--the Guaranteed Student Loans program. Basic Educational Opportunity Grants, and Social Security benefits to students.

Students May Be Forced Out

Mark Kende, a Yale junior who proposed the student lobby, said this week. "We want to express our concern that some students may be forced from schools or be forced to go to lower-priced and lower-quality schools" if Congress accepts Reagan's budget proposals.
